Of course, many fans prefer TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (2007-2009), which disregarded T3 and eventually SALVATION (which came out while the series was airing), opting instead to continue the story of Sarah and John post-T2. Another trilogy was planned around this installment, but like the last, it never saw the light of day. It would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. James Cameron returned to the franchise as a producer on the next (soft) reboot TERMINATOR: DARK FATE (2019), which disregarded everything but the original James Cameron films. Ultimately, the film wasn’t very successful though, so they rebooted Terminator again… Then, TERMINATOR GENISYS (2015) rebooted the franchise completely, starting over from the original 1984 film and re-writing the Terminator playbook with a planned trilogy in mind. This timeline would be concluded in the 2013-2014 limited comic book series TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FINAL BATTLE. These were the first post-Cameron sequels and possibly the most respected after his original works. Next in the chronology were TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES (2003) and its sequel TERMINATOR SALVATION (2009).
